Carey Lucas Nikonchuk
Carey Lucas Nikonchuk has called the Charleston area home since the age of three. Living on the Isle of Palms until pursuing her college career, Carey lived the charmed lifestyle residents enjoy on the Island. Attending Sullivan’s Island Elementary, Laing Middle School, Bishop England High, and Wando High, Carey received the finest education. After a year at the University of South Carolina, Carey returned home and graduated from The College of Charleston with a degree in history. As a direct descendant of Jonathan Lucas, who journeyed to Charleston from his home in England in the 1780s, and as a millwright and inventor, revolutionized the rice industry with his rice mill, Carey had a personal interest in the history of the Low Country. In pursuit of a Master’s Degree, Carey attended The University of Charleston and graduated with her Master’s in European History. Following graduate school, Carey was employed by the South Carolina Historical Society as an archivist and has authored numerous articles and papers for periodicals and journals. Carey married in 2002. She and her husband, Eric, welcomed their first daughter, Lily in 2004. Upon leaving the Historical Society, she was employed as a middle school history teacher at Palmetto Christian Academy in Mt. Pleasant SC. Her daughter, Evelyn, was born in 2006 and Carey took a hiatus to be home with her children. Carey began her career in real estate in 2006. She has excelled in the industry and is a Top 10% Multiple Listing Agent, was a 2014 and 2015 Realtor of Distinction, and is a member of East Cooper Top Producer’s Club.
