Notable for its sparsely developed landscape, Snowden is an old marshfront community off Long Point Road. Snowden is a historically African American community that dates back to the time of slavery. After slavery ended, many African Americans continued to work on the plantations and purchased land close by. Snowden has long-standing ties to Long Point Baptist Church. The area is dominated by old-growth pine and oak trees and historic homes erected as early as the 1930s, brick homes built around the 1970s and manufactured housing, all on sprawling lots. Increasingly, the area is giving way to development; newer homes are popping up and lots with for-sale signs are not uncommon.
