Situated adjacent to the north side of Hampton Park and the Citadel and overlooking the Ashley River, Wagener Terrace is fast becoming one of the favorite residential areas in downtown Charleston’s 29403 zip code. First established in the 1920s, with the bulk of construction lasting into the 1950s, the park-like community includes cozy bungalow-style homes with spacious greenery-filled yards. Some parts of Wagener Terrace, especially the waterfront properties overlooking the river, feature larger new homes and luxury condominiums. The area is accessible to downtown Charleston and points beyond and is home to the still-standing 19th-century Lowndes Grove Plantation from which the subdivision was carved. At its inception, the planned neighborhood was popular among the middle-class Protestant, Greek and Jewish communities of Charleston.
