On the way to Folly Beach is James Island’s newer planned Ocean Neighbor’s community. Built between the mid-1990s and mid-2000s, the managed subdivision includes nearly 250 homes, many overlooking a central lake. The cul-de-saced neighborhood includes no thru streets, making for quiet sidewalk-lined drives devoid of much traffic. Homes are sized between 1,500 and 2,500 square feet and priced between $250,000 and $500,000. The beach is just a 10-minute trip down the road, and the entrance to Ocean Neighbors is less than a mile from Folly Road for access to grocery shopping, restaurants, banks, Wal-Mart and a large Gold’s Gym fitness facility. Secessionville Road, also less than a mile from the neighborhood entrance, provides a nice back way to navigate the island if Folly Road traffic is heavy.
