An older, well-established neighborhood in James Island, Lawton Bluff encompasses both sides of Harbor View Road, making it feel like two completely different communities. The vast majority of homes in the area are brick ranches built in the 1950s to 1970s, but also prevalent are siding-clad homes built in the 1980s and some stunning luxury waterfront mansions. The more expensive homes to the northeast of Harborview are closest to the water. At the back of the upper Lawton Bluff neighborhood is the prestigious White Point section, which overlooks the Charleston Harbor and the Battery. Also in Lawton Bluff’s upper section is a pocket of newer homes known as Whitehurst. Home prices can range from under $200,000 to almost $4 million depending on size, age and location. This convenient James Island neighborhood is less than two miles from the James Island Connector for access to the College of Charleston and the rest of downtown. Also within a two-mile drive is an excellent selection of groceries, banks and restaurants.
